Rugby International from Carbonne

A rugby international from Carbonne playing for Tunisia

At only 19 years old, Jasser Amri, a promising rugby player, wore the colours of Tunisia at an African competition.

Carbonne sports people impress us!

In Carbonne, sports are highly valued. We recently highlighted in our columns the notable performances achieved in various disciplines this year. But here’s another Carbonne resident who’s quietly making a name for himself in rugby: Jasser Amri

Who are you, Jasser?

I am the grandson of Guy Flourac (Editor’s note: an old Carbonne family) and the son of his daughter Aurélie. My father is Tunisian. Born in Toulouse 19 years ago, I am in my third year of a BTS (Higher National Diploma) in Fluids and Energy in Home Automation, Option B, and I want to continue my studies to build a better future. My passion is rugby.

Speaking of which, what is your sporting background?

I started playing rugby as a toddler at the Cazères baby rugby school as a right prop. At the age of 8, I joined RCL (Rugby Carbonne Longages), where I stayed for four years.

I spent two years at the Domazan club before joining the USSS (Union Sportive Saint-Sulpice). I was a junior at the time.

Today, I still play right prop for the club’s U21 team, in the Federal division, in a warm, family atmosphere.

I hear you took your future career into your own hands?

Indeed, at the beginning of the year, I boldly submitted my application by email to the Tunisian national team coach.

On February 22, 2025, I received a positive response, which gave me a place in a training camp and a team selection. This allowed me to play in the Africa Cup of Nations in Harare, Zimbabwe. Unfortunately, our results didn’t allow us to qualify for the U20 World Cup B.

Any last words?

I would like to express my gratitude to my coaches and trainers, who taught me the essential skills and enabled me to succeed.

His grandfather, Guy Flourac, added: “Our whole family is very proud of Jasser, both for his academic achievements and his sporting career. We wish him all the best!”
